Beaches, Islands and Neighborhoods
Spend an active morning windsurfing, riding Jet Skis and parasailing at St. Pete Beach. For great shopping, food and drinks in St. Pete, head downtown to Central Avenue, a funky local favorite with an artsy, laid-back vibe. Looking for island vibes? Jet out to Egmont Key to snorkel the sunken ruins or take a short trip north to unspoiled Honeymoon Island. For family-friendly things to do or fresh seafood, head to Madeira Beach to check out the boardwalk shops in John’s Pass Village & Boardwalk, or explore Fort De Soto to the south.
For a lesson in local marine life and a break from the sun, visit the Clearwater Marine Aquarium just a short drive from the heart of Clearwater Beach. Or, spend the day traveling along the “Gulp Coast,” the area’s craft brewery trail featuring more than 40 homegrown breweries offering artisanal beers made on-site. Make sure to sample a “Florida Weisse” along the way. This tart, low-alcohol, highly carbonated brew is inspired by the Berliner Weisse. Local brewers make it their own with hints of the tropics such as key lime, dragon fruit and passion fruit.
Downtown Arts Scene
St. Pete/Clearwater could rely solely on its marvelous shoreline for fun, but it doesn’t. It's also home to world-class museums and an up-and-coming urban arts scene. Don’t miss the Dali Museum, home to the largest collection of Spanish surrealist Salvador Dali’s works outside Spain. Then head over to the Morean Arts Center's Chihuly Collection to find iconic glassblower Dale Chihuly’s permanent collection. Both attractions are in the heart of downtown St. Pete. If hip, urban art is more your style, you’ll find hundreds of incredible murals throughout downtown St. Pete and beyond.
Getting Here and Getting Around
It’s a breeze to get to St. Pete/Clearwater’s top beaches and fun-loving communities. There are nearly 100 direct flight options to two local international airports. Plus, it’s only a short drive from Orlando. Once in St. Pete/Clearwater, the high walkability factor and fantastic public transportation will help you easily navigate the area, so you can focus on enjoying your ultimate Florida vacation on the Gulf Coast.
