Sioux Falls, South Dakota’s largest City, is located in the heart of the United States at the junction of Interstates 90 and 29. Plus, it is easily accessible by major international airlines. The city welcomes you with its friendly, honest, cultured people, down-home hospitality, clean air and water, safe streets, and a growing population of over 242,000.
Located in downtown Sioux Falls, the city’s namesake, Falls Park is home to the Falls of the Big Sioux River and has been a focus of life in the region throughout history. Today the park covers 123 acres and each second an average of 7,400 gallons of water drop 100 feet over the course of the falls. Welcoming visitors from around the world, Falls Park also offers a visitor centre with a five-story viewing tower, Overlook Café and historic ruins. This celebrated attraction is a must-visit, even being named among TripAdvisor’s top 25 parks in the United States in June 2013.
To further explore Sioux Falls’ history, visit Prairie Star Gallery and Good Earth State Park at Blood Run, offering a cultural experience best known to the first peoples who settled in Sioux Falls. The gallery offers all-indigenous goods that come predominantly from South Dakota’s Native American reservations and famous artists that have originated from the area. Good Earth State Park, South Dakota’s newest state park, is a National Historic Landmark. The river, abundant wildlife and wood for fuel, fertile flood plains, availability of pipestone and protection from winds made the area a crossroads of Native American civilization from 1300 - 1700 AD. Occupants here were primarily Oneota Indigenous Peoples. In fact, no other Oneota site of this size and integrity is known to exist in the U.S.
