Saratoga’s attractions and spectacular scenery have made it a premier Northeast destination for centuries. Located approximately three hours from New York, Montreal and Boston, Saratoga features world-class horse racing, the performing arts, gaming, polo, award-winning golf courses, museums – including three National museums, a National Battlefield, Victorian architecture, great shopping, plentiful outdoor activities and so much more.

Saratoga first became famous for its naturally flowing, carbonated springs that brought visitors in droves, including the rich and famous, to “take the cure” in the healing waters of Saratoga. Today visitors still relax and rejuvenate in those same waters at the Roosevelt Baths & Spa, nestled in the Saratoga Spa State Park. The 2,200-acre Saratoga Spa State Park is known for its recreational resources as well as its cultural resources. Visitors to the park can enjoy walking and running trails, two beautiful golf courses (a championship 18-hole course and a challenging 9-hole course), two swimming pools and tennis courts along with cross-country skiing, snow shoeing and ice skating during the winter months. The park is also home to Home Made Theater, Opera Saratoga and the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, which draws vacation crowds and arts connoisseurs each year to its summer programming, including summer residencies by New York City Ballet, The Philadelphia Orchestra and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.

In 2013 Saratoga Race Course celebrated 150 years of world-class thoroughbred horse racing. Since the Spa City’s first organized race meet in 1863, Saratoga Race Course has welcomed champion thoroughbreds, renowned trainers, celebrated jockeys and famed horsemen – earning it the title of one of the nation’s top 10 sports venues from Sports Illustrated magazine. Each year, hundreds of thousands of fans travel to Saratoga Race Course to experience its special combination of elegance, excitement and family fun. In keeping with the equine tradition, fans can watch the excitement of Saratoga Polo action each summer along with live, year-round harness racing and gaming fun at Saratoga Casino and Raceway.

Saratoga County has a number of museums and historic landmarks, including the beautiful Saratoga National Historical Park, noted as the place where the Turning Point of the American Revolution occurred during The Battles of Saratoga; the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame; New York State Military Museum; Tang Teaching Museum & Art Gallery at Skidmore College; Grant’s Cottage, where Ulysses S. Grant wrote his dying memoirs; the Saratoga Automobile Museum; Brookside Museum; The Children’s Museum at Saratoga and several local history museums.

Saratoga County is also rich in affordable, unique and high quality golf courses, including the award-winning Saratoga National Golf Club. Named one of the Top 100 public courses in America by “Golf Digest,” it is one of 14 courses in the area.

Visitors interested in spending time outdoors will find over 10,000 acres of parks, trails, lakes, rivers and scenic beauty nestled between the banks of the Hudson River and the southern foothills of the Adirondack Mountains.

Enjoy Victorian architecture, gourmet restaurants to suit any taste, fine shopping at boutiques and galleries sure to delight, while staying in charming inns, bed and breakfasts and hotels. Saratoga’s “Health, History and Horses” make this upstate New York destination one that will keep you coming back!
