The Coastal Cities of South Carolina

By Zack Zublena

South Carolina is a paradise for vacationers. Magnificent places to explore abound. You can find exhilarating mountains, forests, parks, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, historic cities and unforgettable attractions for the entire family. But with more than 250 miles of beaches, South Carolina is a top destination for beach lovers and water sports fanatics. Let’s explore the beautiful coastal cities of South Carolina!

The Boardwalk of Myrtle Beach

Located in the northeast of South Carolina, the city of Myrtle Beach is ideal for the entire family. This giant resort destination has fabulous attractions everywhere you look. And look up, because you won’t be able to miss the SkyWheel – a 57-meter-tall Ferris wheel that delivers panoramic views of the oceanfront and city. At night, the attraction lights up in a spectacular light display.

Broadway at the Beach, in the heart of Myrtle Beach, offers a variety of attractions for children and adults alike. This huge entertainment complex includes such attractions as a thrilling zip line, a hands-on science museum, live entertainment, theater shows, night clubs, excellent shopping and great restaurants…the list goes on.

Coastal Charleston

South of Myrtle Beach, let the charming city of Charleston put a spell on you. There are several beautiful islands and beaches to explore here. Take a day trip to Bull Island, an untouched piece of paradise accessible only by ferry. Folly Beach is the closest beach to Charleston and offers shelling, a lighthouse, a fishing pier and laid-back beaches. For a more active seaside experience, try body surfing, beach volleyball or a fishing charter along the seven miles of sand at Isle of Palms. Kiawah Island is great for a luxury resort or golfing experience near Charleston, while Seabrook Island offers resort vacations at a peaceful nature retreat.

Hilton Head Island

Our next coastal destination, Hilton Head Island, has an indefinable beauty that could be summarized by three words: paradise on earth. “Relax, Rejuvenate and Reconnect” could be the island’s motto, and your experience there will undoubtedly put a smile on your face. No matter what your travel plans, you’re likely to find what you’re looking for on Hilton Head Island. Choose from sports such as championship golfing, tennis, fishing or polo, or keep it relaxed with a day on the beach or a walk through the wilderness at Sea Pines Forest Preserve, a nature preserve known for its raised boardwalks through the wild swamps. Harbour Town is another destination not to miss, offering shopping, dining, entertainment and activities, as well as a fabulous sunset to watch on top of the lighthouse.

The coastal cities of South Carolina have so much to offer. Modern resorts and exciting attractions sit alongside attractive beaches and untouched nature. For a true escape from the everyday, don’t look further than South Carolina!
