Atlanta, Georgia: Downtown’s Incredible Attractions

By Vange Tapia

Not only the state capital of Georgia, Atlanta is home to some truly world-class attractions, shopping and dining, especially in its bustling downtown district. The centrepiece of Atlanta’s metropolitan vibe, downtown is home to fantastic attractions for all age ranges.

Atlanta CityPASS

The best way to see all of downtown Atlanta’s must-visit attractions is to purchase the Atlanta CityPASS. For one discounted rate, you’ll get access to the Georgia Aquarium, Inside CNN Studio Tour, the World of Coca-Cola museum, Zoo Atlanta or the Center for Civil and Human Rights, and the College Football Hall of Fame and Chick-fil-A Fan Experience. This pass was so convenient, I highly recommend it!

Downtown Atlanta’s Top Attractions
Since the hotel where I stayed was conveniently located downtown, we went for a walk to check out the area. First, we strolled by the Centennial Olympic Park, revitalised for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games and now a symbol of a diverse and thriving metropolis. Concerts and events are regularly hosted here, including a WindDown Wednesday, music festivals and celebrations for many holidays. I loved watching kids splash around in the Fountain of Rings, an open splash pad designed after the famous Olympic rings.

Centennial Park is also a great starting point for discovering Atlanta’s other top attractions included with the CityPass, such as the World of Coca-Cola museum, the CNN headquarters and the Georgia Aquarium. The World of Coca-Cola museum is a fascinating foray into learning about this world-famous product and most iconic brand. You’ll even get to sample different flavours of Coke from around the world! At the CNN headquarters, you can take a tour of the studios to see the daily workings of a global news organisation. (By the way, you’ll get to ride a huge – and I mean LONG! – escalator inside the building! It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen!) The Georgia Aquarium is absolutely beautiful, with interactive areas that are perfect for kids or anyone fascinated by these diverse displays of sea life.

In Buckhead, I was delighted to discover the elegant Swan House mansion and its beautiful gardens and interiors. Not only is this place part of the Atlanta History Center and one of the landmarks of Atlanta, it also used as a set for one of the scenes from the film “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.”

Beyond what I have mentioned, the downtown area has so much more to see, including the Atlanta Children’s Museum, the College Football Hall of Fame and the emotionally moving Center for Civil and Human Rights. Whether for business or pleasure, you will never get bored in Atlanta. Everything in Atlanta is done on a grand scale, so come to play big!
